ARTIST'S STATEMENT

In August 2004, my beloved son Tyler passed away.  With his passing, the joy in my life also seemed to pass, and I was holding on by the very thinnest of threads.  Previous to his passing, my body of work would often engage the theme of the cycle of life, from creation through death, and the passage from this life to the next.

It would also reflect themes of balance by addressing the polarities necessary to any self-regulating system: life and death, joy and sorrow, happiness and sadness, hope and despair, light and dark, gain and loss, creation and destruction.

After Tyler's passing, my life was so out of balance that I could not address, at least not for any sustained period of time, the themes of death, sorrow, sadness, despair, darkness, loss or destruction that had been so much a part of my work.  My real world was so devoid of light and joy that I created a world of light and joy in my artwork to get me through.

In the summer of 2006, the world of my creation and the real world around me became one again and joy returned to my life.  The artworks created during that time reflect the synchronization of the two worlds into one.
